Mechanical Construction Manager – Solar

Contract Length: June 1, 2025 – December 2026

Job Description: 

The Mechanical Construction Manager role involves overseeing all mechanical installations and testing, conducting thorough site walkdowns, and ensuring that installation activities meet the standards set by equipment suppliers and quality control requirements. Additionally, the Mechanical Construction Manager is responsible for diligently reviewing quality control documentation, proactively resolving any non-conformities, meticulously examining technical and as-built drawings for accuracy, and providing valuable assistance during site energization and commissioning.

This position is available as an independent contractor on a 1099 basis. The role requires full-time, onsite availability for up to six days and sixty hours per week. After every five weeks onsite, a one-week paid turnaround will be provided. Applicants are responsible for providing their own site vehicle, vehicle insurance, cell phone, and laptop computer.

Job Duties: 

  • Conduct thorough onsite inspections to ensure that the installation checklists provided by the equipment suppliers have been followed in accordance.
  • Supervise the inspections of received solar modules and assist with the filing of warranty claims.
  • Manage deliveries and offloading, review lift plans, and inspect rigging.
  • Monitor tensioning and torquing activities and review tool calibration certifications and procedures.
  • Actively participate in site safety meetings and initiatives.
  • Validate construction progress and milestone accomplishments against the project schedule.
  • Facilitate communication between contractors, equipment suppliers, operations personnel, landowners, and owner’s consultants on the site.
  • Track inventory and the quality of contractor-furnished components and equipment.
  • Track and inspect owner-furnished equipment and associated warranty claims.
  • Document and track any non-conformities or demurrage charges to closure.
  • Conduct block-level walkdowns and aid in creating substantial completion punchlists.
  • Assist the AP&E Site Manager with job book review and completion.
  • Collaborate with the AP&E site team to plan and monitor project quality control activities and documentation.
  • Submit daily and weekly reports on suppliers’ and contractors’ construction activities to the AP&E Site Manager and owner’s Project Manager.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in the construction of utility-scale renewable energy generation facilities with at least two years of solar project construction experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending engineering blueprints, Equipment Supply Agreements, and quality control documentation.
  • Strong adherence to safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficiency in reading, understanding, and interpreting contractual agreements, project documentation, and permits.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented and efficient in task execution.
